I love the idea of creating art just to mail away for free to a worthy cause.

The first one I contributed to was more than 10 years ago, when Jennifer March wanted to cover a space rocket with fiber art.  

This year, I discovered a project created by the Brooklyn Art Library called The Sketchbook Project.  I loved the idea that my "sketchbook" would be nestled among 50,000 other sketchbooks in New York City, my home town.  So I bought a sketchbook and am now filling the pages.

As a fiber artist, I decided to take the theme of "Piece by Piece" from Volume 19 because it harked back to my history as a quilter.  So each page of my sketchbook will reflect some historical quilt squares and variations that appeared in my first book called The Patchwork Quilt Design & Coloring Book, published by Butterick Publishing in 1977.

I'll be working with fabric, cut into 1 and 1/2" strips to create 3 and 4 patch squares.  

I don't know which of my projects will take more time — creating a full size quilt for my granddaughter or gluing tiny pieces of fabric into my sketchbook.  In either case, it's getting me back into my traditional quilting roots!
