I am obsessed with making art books. Faith Hale who teaches on Creative Bug is a wonderful instructor and her latest class shows how to make 3 different "Innovative Book Structures" and i have made all three. This is my favorite. It is a "pop up" book and the art on the panels is a watercolor painting I made experimenting with circles and color. I cut it up into 3" squares to fit the panels and just love how it came out.
I also LOVE the binding idea using Tyvek. So much easier than sewing and glueing. A great way to bind my Gelli prints. I highly recommend her class. If you go to the JoAnns website, you can click and get one month of free access to their online learning website. Try it! I get no commission on this recommendation — just saying!

I was thrilled to be asked to teach at the Many Hands Fiber Arts Festival this summer.
Telluride is one of the most beautiful places in Colorado. And summer is the best time to be there (if you aren't going just for their 5 Star skiing in the winter!) I will be teaching Stupendous Stitching and Fiber Art Fun — both great classes to unleash your creative spirit, learn some new techniques and become the master of your sewing machine! I hope you can join me. The festival is from July 27th through the 29th. Here's how to register! If you want to make a festival part of a vacation, here's a link to the Telluride website that will show you some other reasons to visit this fabulous place. My Mom's birthday was May 10th. So every 6-7 years, it fell on Mother's Day. Kind of like being born on Christmas where instead of two celebrations, you only get one!
But every year, I think of my Mom when her favorite flower blooms in my garden. Always around the beginning of May. Mom's favorite color was pink so this flower is especially relevant to my memories of her. Objects, smells and colors have a direct impact on how we see and experience the world. I want to incorporate these in my artwork because they evoke emotions. I think that's the purpose of art. Happy Mother's Day to all! I've been having a lot of fun doing prints with Gelli Plates this month. Here are some pages I'v made and now I'm going to embroider on them.
I'm also experimenting with paper and loving the books I can make with this fun process. Experiment and enjoy! |
