I always wonder whether taking my grandkids to a museum is a good idea (will they be totally bored?). But today, I discovered that they were as curious as I was about modern art. This is Giorgio, 8, crazy kid, full of energy, but loved all the sculptures -- especially the ones made from rock. Fun day at The Modern in Fort Worth.

My daughter-in-law is from Italy where they take decorating a Christmas tree very seriously! This year her theme was white. I loved that she hung a red ornament on her tree because she got a present from a friend. Reminded me again that flexibility is the key to being creative!
My step son likes to smoke cigars so I am always the happy recipient of his labels and boxes. This week, I collaged the labels he gave me onto a card stock and then scanned the image. I can now print it on paper, fabric, or transfer stock or even send it to Spoonflower to be printed on yards of fabric or wrapping paper.
Darn. I should have thought of this earlier so I could have used it for his Christmas present this year. I tend to think about Christmas about December 20th so it makes it had to personalize presents. I should write myself a note on my calendar in November..... Yesterday, I volunteered all day to make quilts for disaster victims. Each of us respond different ways when disaster strikes and it is wonderful to see the support of quilters in sending gifts of comfort to victims of hurricanes, fires, earthquakes, tsunamis — you name it.
And one of the most generous people in our quilting world is Luana Rubin, owner of eQuilter here in Boulder, CO. Luana arranged for Blakeman Sewing and Vac to set up new Bernina sewing machines for the event and 20 sewers showed up to make quilts for the day. Luana also gave us a tour of her company and all I can tell you is I wanted to buy everything in her warehouse!!! I haven't pieced a quilt top in more than 7 years so it felt good just to mindlessly sew (well, I had to have a vision of what the quilt would look like and paid some attention to value!). My friend, Mary McCauley brought some pre-cuts from her deceased Mother-In-Law and that is what I worked on all day. Nice to finish someone else's unfinished work! Luana is an amazing person and I hope you can support her online store. She gives back to our community and is a very special person. A new Whole Foods store opened in downtown Denver so we just had to check it out. So urban. So cool. So hip.
Best part was seeing the food "designers" incorporate a complementary color schemes to showcase the veggies. Got to love it! |
