I went to Cuba a couple of years ago and this drawing is of the Plaza de San Francisco. The white marble fountain is called Fuente de los Leones (fountain of lions) and it was carved by Giuseppe Gaggini in 1836.
As I watched, a woman, dressed in white with a white umbrella, led a group of people and children past the fountain. I wondered if she was of the Santeria religion and was in her final year of her initiation, as the bride of the Oricha. Cuba is a fascinating place and I will be drawing more scenes to remind me of my trip and the Cuban culture.
