Yesterday, I volunteered all day to make quilts for disaster victims. Each of us respond different ways when disaster strikes and it is wonderful to see the support of quilters in sending gifts of comfort to victims of hurricanes, fires, earthquakes, tsunamis — you name it.
And one of the most generous people in our quilting world is Luana Rubin, owner of eQuilter here in Boulder, CO. Luana arranged for Blakeman Sewing and Vac to set up new Bernina sewing machines for the event and 20 sewers showed up to make quilts for the day. Luana also gave us a tour of her company and all I can tell you is I wanted to buy everything in her warehouse!!! I haven't pieced a quilt top in more than 7 years so it felt good just to mindlessly sew (well, I had to have a vision of what the quilt would look like and paid some attention to value!). My friend, Mary McCauley brought some pre-cuts from her deceased Mother-In-Law and that is what I worked on all day. Nice to finish someone else's unfinished work! Luana is an amazing person and I hope you can support her online store. She gives back to our community and is a very special person.
