SAQA Auction

Every year, Studio Art Quilt Associates (SAQA) raises money to fund its operation.  They ask their more than 2,500 members around the world, to contribute a piece of their art measuring 12″ x 12″.  I have contributed for the past two years and here is my contribution for 2010.  It’s called Swine Flu Garden and it’s the study I made for a larger piece by the same name that is currently being exhibited in the Art Meets Science exhibit sponsored by SAQA.  The “Mother” piece is included in the printed catalog along with my piece H1N1 that was also juried into this exhibit.

As members of this wonderful organization, we have also been asked to publicize it on our blogs so I’m doing so along with showing you some of my personal favorites.

More than 250 pieces will be auctioned off starting on Monday, September 20th at 2:00 Eastern Time and conclude on Saturday, October 9 at 2:00 Eastern.

The Auction is run in three sections (Section 1 – Pages 1a and 1b; Section 2 – Pages 2a and 2b; Section 3 – Pages 3a and 3b).

On the first day of each section’s auction, the price for all pieces in that section is $750. The next day (at 2:00 Eastern), the price drops to $550. The third day, it drops to $350, then $250, then $150, and finally $75.  Unsold pieces will be for sale at $75 in the SAQA Store through the end of October. If they are still unsold at that time, they will be returned to the artist.

I am happy to say both of my previous pieces sold and I’m hoping this one does as well since SAQA is doing such fine work publicizing art quilts to the world. I wish I had unlimited funds to buy art because there are many, many I would like to hang on my wall but here are my top 3 choices this year.  Enjoy and I hope you can add an auction piece to your collection — lots to choose from!
