Yves St Laurent

Last Sunday was the last day of the Yves St Laurent exhibit in Denver.  What took me so long???  It was totally amazing.  Of course, his fashion is incredible but more than that, it was the presentation.  I walked into the exhibit to the music of La Traviata — a favorite opera of his (and mine!).  The mood was hushed and reverent.  The crowd silent.  Everyone was focused on the words on the walls and his art.  Walking through the rooms, we could hear conversations in French.  I don’t speak that language but I imagined it was recordings of him talking with the press, his assistants, or his partner about fashion, ideas and beliefs.  It didn’t matter that I could understand, I was in Paris.

I particularly liked these two dresses that were all raw edge applique.  In my opinion, the use of black really made the colors pop.  I think I’d like to try some of this in my own work.  Being from New York, I am a big fan of black — in fact I wear it every day so this feels comfortable for me!

I love the Christmas ornaments. Every year I give each of
my grandsons an ornamnet, it would be nice to give them one
of your lovely ornaments. I enjoyed your blog.
