Carol–I have found a site called Satin Cord and More that handles rattail–I just ordered 60 colors at 4ft per color for $40 dollars–I will let you know how the cord does–I know you buy in bulk but for an individual this sounds like a good deal–will let you know–Mary Ellen
Thanks, Mary Ellen.
Carol,I just watched you on The Quilt Show and everytime I see your work I’m just spellbound. I am not an artist but with your techniques I guess anyone could be.I have taken both of your classe from craftsy and if you should have another one I hope to be the first one in line. You are my STUPENDOUS INSPIRATION.
Hi–of course I found the site–it was in YOUR book–dummy me–I was wondering what you use the Essential threads for–doing the decorative stitches or piecing–do they have any variegated threads–I have looked at them but couldn’t really tell–they are certainly a lot less expensive than any other–thanks
Thanks so much for your kind words! You ARE an artist — we all are — and I know whatever you have created from my classes, no one else has. So you are unique!
No plans for a third class yet but if you email the Craftsy folks, maybe they will want me to develop another course. I just LOVE teaching online!
Hello Carol, I watched the Quilt Show episode yesterday and I really love your work. You shared so many great ideas – thank you so much. You really are an inspiration for us all. Your work is fabulous.
With best wishes,

I just viewed the video on The Quilt Show of your studio–oh my God-what a wonderful place for you to work your magic–the windows must give such natural light–you deserve it–
thanks for the link – watched you on tqs – lots of laughing and fun you had! so glad I already took the craftsy classes and know how to do stupendous stitching and stitch and slash. you are very generous to share your art technique. well done!
I am very blessed to have a place like this to work. Essential Threads does not make variegated thread at the moment. I recommend Valdani thread for hand-dyed, color-fast 35 wt variegated thread. They are my favorite! check them out at https://www.valdani.com
We did have fun! Alex and Ricky are wonderful hosts. Thanks for taking my classes! I hope you had fun too!
Thanks for your kind comments. As you can tell, I just love what I do and also love helping others discover their “inner artist”.
Hi Carol. I recently watched you on the Quilt Show and was very impressed. I subsequently took your Stupendous Stitching class and can’t wait to start the application. Thanks for being so complete with your lessons. It was impressive to see that you even included the framing and mounting instructions which I’ve not encountered in other sewing/quilting classes. Today is my birthday and I may treat myself to your book and products!
Happy Birthday!
I loved seeing your show. You did such a fine job in showing the details about your art. Thank you.
Thanks for your kind words and watching!
Carol–I have been using my stash of Rayon embroidery thread for the fancy stitching–it does very well–I am curious if you use only cotton and why–I ordered six threads from Valdani and really like them–plan to order some of their lights in a little while–
As you know, I LOVE Valdani thread. I’ve actually been trying their 12wt hand dyes through my sewing machine and it’s working. Recently, I have been delving into the rayons and they are beautiful. The only reason I didn’t use them in my art is I didn’t want the sheen.
I used a 12 weight varigated thread from superior Threads. Have you tried that one and how does it compare to Valdani? i.e. frequency of color change, sheen, lint, etc?
Hi Dorothy,
I have used a lot of Superior thread but not their 12wt variegated so I can’t give you a direct comparison but their thread is not hand-dyed which, in my opinion, gives a more natural gradient of color. For instance, their yellow gradually turns into orange and gradually into red rather than having one inch of yellow, followed by an inch of orange, and then a inch of red. I also like the luster of the hand-dyed thread as well as the fact that it is colorfast.
Carol, long time since we have talked – when we both worked in a different world! I knew you were doing something artistic, but was just mind-boggled when I saw your work. It is beautiful. Congratulations on your fabulous work and your success!
Hi Jeanne!
How did you ever find me again? Thanks for your kind comments. Let’s email rather than chat on my website!
