New Work

Stupendous Stitching Autumn

I’ve started a new series of Stupendous Stitching pieces, all based around the colors of autumn.  The rich reds, golds, browns, dark greens, and deep oranges pervade this piece and give it so much light and life.  It is a joy just to work on it.  I took a different approach on this series and am using free motion quilting in large amounts to give a different dimension to the surface and I’m loving how the hand-dyed thread I’m using (from Valdani) is making this piece almost vibrate with the contrasts of the darks and lights.  I finished one of the squares today and here is what it looks like.  It measures about 30″ x 30″ — hard to see on a computer screen so I’ve added some detail shots for you to enjoy.

Looks fabulous, I love the idea of free motion machine stitching to add another dimension to your work.

I think we always need to try something new on each piece of art we make. You never know what will happen or where you might go from there.

Some day I’ll get going and try some of these ideas. You surely are motivating me.

This is just gorgeous Carol. I am amazed at the versatility and freedom (no rules :) of Stupendous Stitching and am loving what I have learned from your course on Crafsty. The free motion quilting has added yet another dimension and I love how the hand dyed thread makes it pop while blending in with the whole. Love, love, love!

I got an email that you posted a new project on Craftsy so I went there. Wish I had come here first. I left a very positive comment there about this new work (which is fantastic!) (It put in my picture but not my name. Called me “null”) As I said in that comment “I love it! The little circles or pebbles gave me a feeling of JOY bubbling up from within” myself. Next time I get an email I will hopefully remember to check here first. Thanks for the detail photos. Gave me a better idea of what you did. I can see the whole work larger and better here than on Craftsy. Do more free motion you are good at it. I have not practiced enough. I am having a challenge with my stitch book. My sit and sew class has one to go and I’ll have more time to work on it and my first “Stupendous Stitches” class work. Again, I really love “Autumn”.

  8. This is so vibrant and beautiful. I have to find time to to get back to doing this work. I really, really love the work and the outcome. Need some new backgrounds, no batik in Panama. Have to order some I guess. I have used the concepts learned so many ways in class and personally, it was a course that changed the way I do things forever. Great work! Carol.

Thanks for letting me know that I had some influence on your work! I love that! For a good selection of batiks, try http://www.sewbatik.com. They ship internationally.

Thanks for your kind words about my new work. If you are having issues with your stitch bible, stop and just start a Stupendous Stitching project. You can always go back to that later!

This is a great one. You are truly an artist and you inspire me to try things I never thought I could do. No Rules is the best advice I have ever received. Thanks
